The one-minute story of my life

Left home at a young age, swearing never to return to big-city life. Time with Uncle Sam, school at Eastern New Mexico and St. Andrews/Dominion. Lived in rural New Mexico, Arizona, Oregon and Nevada. Taught in the college systems in 5 western states. Had to spend a few months each in metropolitan Utah, Arizona and California. Now a retired aviator and educator, I'm living on my little piece of Nirvana in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

What I like to cook
Pretty much anything. I love searching through recipe sites, finding new and interesting dishes to put my own twist on. I do lean toward "Man Food" quite a bit and especially love Southwestern/Mexican and Asian (mostly stir-fry) fare. Baking has been surprisingly easy (all but bread!). I love to grill and would sorely love to learn proper barbecue. Gotta build a rig for that, though!
Who I cook for
Myself mostly, but friends and family do drop in with regularity. There are also lots of "do's" up here in the mountains during the summer months and a big New Year's Eve party with just us locals.
My greatest cooking triumph (so far)
Baking and deserts. Especially chocoflan (Mexican chocolate cake with flan on top) and triple-chocolate mouse cake, cheesecakes, cookies/brownies and cakes
My worst cooking disaster (so far)
Bread! After many, many disasters, I've finally made a loaf of good bread, so I am a bit more enthusiastic about trying again!
