A very easy, delicious whole wheat bread perfect for bread machines. I've modified a recipe for a moister, slightly sweeter bread.

Ingredients

1 1/8 cup warm water (110 F/43 cup)
1/4 cup molasses or honey (see directions)
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3 tablespoons butter

3 cups whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons nonfat dry milk powder
1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Preparation method

1. "Wet" ingredients: Fill a 2 cup measuring cup with 1 1/8 C water.
2. Add molasses (or honey) up to the 1 1/3 C line (molasses makes the bread darker). Add salt and mix thoroughly to dissolve.
3. Pour into bread machine and add butter. Butter can be in sliced "pats"; need not be melted or softened.
4. Dry Ingredients: Add flour to cover wet ingredients.
5. Add sugar, milk powder, and yeast. Yeast should be kept separate from salt until the machine starts to mix.
6. Bake in bread machine per manufacturer's directions. The "Light" crust setting works best for me.
