This recipe began as an experiment to see if the flavor of my favorite martini would or could transfer into a burger; I'm happy to say that it works. I think it tastes amazing. The tart flavor of the gin and juniper berries cuts through the hearty beef right to the tastebuds, and the cocktail olives and onions in the tapenade provide a salty kick to make it taste like Saturday night. Believe it or not, some burgers are meant to be eaten with a knife and fork. One of my favorites is that way - this one! It's a grilled burger served open-faced and slathered with a good helping of chili that's homemade especially for this application. It takes a little effort to put it all together, but nothing about it is difficult...and it is soooo worth it! Serve with an ice-cold beer and a little greenery on the side.

Italian-seasoned beef prepared with balsamic vinegar, mozzarella cheese, marinara, and a slice of pepperoni to top it off. If you desire, heat up the pepperoni, marinara, and maybe melt the cheese a little in a toaster oven or microwave prior to preparing the burger.
