This is a festive spread that goes great with any kind of cracker. It was given to me by a friend who has made it for years. It's especially nice during the holidays, but tasty enough that you would never want to have it only once each year. It's a cream cheese based spread with orange zest, pecans, and dried cranberries providing an excellent supporting role. Dessert, hors d'oeuvre, or something else? I'm not sure, but I hope you like it.

A basic potato soup where potatoes share the stage with little egg dumplings, a very simple and hearty meal. Very tasty too! Four generations of our family once made this on Christmas Eve so that the adults and older children could open their gifts. The dinner was easy to clean up after, and then everyone was in a hurry to get started. So as far back as my grandmother's mother we have called the soup Mom's Christmas Potato Soup!
