NFL Draft Day: It's not only when the fortune of your favorite NFL team is decided, it's a good excuse to invite some guys over for an evening of football talk, food and beer. Here are the five must-haves for an NFL draft party.
1
Slow-cooked or really quick cooked food
The first round starts at 7:30 ET Thursday night--that’s too soon after you get home from work to prepare and cook a huge feast. So our NFL draft recipes collection has either slow cooker recipes, which you can toss together in the morning and have ready for the party that night, or recipes that take 30 minutes or less, so you can just put them together quick when you get home.
2
"Draft" Beer or Draft Beer
As of 2011, Bud Light(R) is the official beer of the NFL. That said, given the occasion, Miller Genuine Draft might be a good choice. Or, if you have a big group, snag a keg and have real draft beer.
3
Draft preview magazine
Head to the magazine rack at the supermarket and pick out one of the NFL draft preview magazines. Lindy’s has a good one. Each will have more info about the picks than you'll get from the TV talking heads. Alternately, keep a laptop fired up to one of the draft pages on the top football sites. Try ProFootballTalk for the latest trade news, NFL Draft Scout for player reports, and Yahoo's Shutdown Corner for the latest pick analysis.
4
Big sheet of paper and a marker
Keep your own draft board so you don’t have to keep your eye too closely on the ESPN or NFL Network crawl. Make categories for pick number, name, team, and position, and see for yourself how the draft unfolds.
5
Punching bag or large pillow
Inevitably, someone’s going to be disgusted with their team's picks (or with the player the team left on the board). Make sure you have something for the disappointed fan to attack in frustration.
6
Pad and paper to take surreptitious fantasy draft notes
That stud wide receiver some team drafted top 5? He might just improve the fantasy stats of his new quarterback, and he's sure to take catches away from a veteran wideout. You'll want to be thinking about this now in anticipation of the preseason fantasy draft.
